What is the Affordable Care Act?
The Affordable Care Act (ACA), also called “Obamacare,” makes comprehensive health insurance available to individuals and families, especially those without coverage through an employer. Through the ACA Marketplace you can shop for plans that may be subsidized based on your income and household size.
You can enroll each year during Open Enrollment (November 1, 2026 to January 15, 2027 for 2027 coverage in states that use HealthCare.gov, including Florida and Texas; enroll by December 15 for coverage that starts January 1), or after a qualifying life event such as losing other coverage, getting married, moving or having a baby.
Each plan has its own premiums, deductibles, copays and provider network. We break down the differences so you can compare with confidence.
